Depending on your membership status (pledge, member, director, officer, etc.), you will be enrolled into different group email list(s). Our current carrier for the group list is http://www.YahooGroups.com.
The purpose of the yahoogroups mailing list is for the members and pledges of Beta Alpha Psi to have a common place where people could exchange ideas and thoughts pertaining to Beta Alpha Psi and the Accounting profession in general. Much like all other email communities on the web, the list prohibits profanity and other inappropriate material to be discussed by the members. Non-Accounting related subjects are likely to be asked to be carried off the list.
Once you pledge, or return from the previous semester, to Beta Alpha Psi, you will be automatically signed up for yahoogroups. There is nothing you will need to do. To start a thread, or a message, send the email to bap-general@yahoogroups.com. Each time a message is sent by a person on the list, everyone else, including the sender, will receive the same copy of the message at roughly the same time. When the receiver click on the REPLY or REPLY ALL button, the email is returned back to bap-general@yahoogroups.com, and then redistributed to everyone on the list. It is important to note that if you would like to contact the sender without emailing the rest of the list, you will need to copy the sender’s email address down and replace the yahoogroups address with the sender’s. Otherwise, your discussion will be heard and archived on yahoogroups.
There are advance options available on yahoogroups in which you can set for yourself. To access those options, you will need to login to yahoogroups at http://www.yahoogroups.com. If you have used this service before using the email address that you’re currently receiving the yahoogroups emails on, login with your password. If you have never used this service before, use the email address in which you’re receiving yahoogroups messages on, and officially sign up for the service (you will get emails regardless if you officially sign up for the service or not).
Once you sign in, you will arrive at the Group Overview page. This will list all the groups you are currently a member of. Most likely, you will only have "bap-general" on your list. The most common feature on this page is "Delivery Options". With this option, you can set yourself to receive one "digest" email per day on all the messages sent on that day by other members, or choose not to receive any emails at all.
Other options are accessible by clicking on the group of your choice and arriving at the Group Detail page. The most popular options are:
- Messages: see an archive of all the messages sent each month.
- Post: post a message to the members of the list without using an email program.
- Members: check on all the email addresses of the group.
- Files: an online storage place where members can upload common files to share with other members.
- Calendar: an online schedule calendar (datebook) available for members.
